This simple Tone 2 Faux Bourdon for three voices that I composed anticipating the absence of the organ for Passion Sunday's Magnificat. The organ would typically play until the incensation is complete. The polyphonic choir alternates with the community choir with the Antiphon being interspersed. When the incensation is complete the Gloria Patri is sung, followed by the final repeat of the antiphon.

This piece may be sung alone or with any Tone 2 or Tone 8 Antiphon.  Also available for ATB.

In this video, the Antiphon text from Jn. 8: 56 Jesus says to the Jewish authorities: "Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see My day: he saw it, and was glad." And for this "They took up stones...to cast at Him." The statues in the sanctuary are traditionally hidden in violet signifying Jesus' hiding until his capture in the Garden of Gethsemane.

TEXT

My soul ✠ * doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced * in God my Saviour. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; * for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; * and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations, * to them that fear him. He hath showed might in his arm: * he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, * and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things; * and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath received Israel his servant, * being mindful of his mercy: As he spoke to our fathers, * to Abraham and to his seed for ever. V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost. R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Ant. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day and he saw it, and was glad.
